Atiitebi – Why Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child?

The greatness of Yoruba books lies in how they transform simple stories into powerful lessons that shape minds and societies. Authors use humor, suspense, and drama to deliver timeless teachings about honesty, resilience, and responsibility. They encourage readers to look inward, reflect on their actions, and strive to do better. For anyone seeking wisdom wrapped in great narratives, Yoruba books offer stories that challenge, inspire, and preserve the richness of our language and traditions.

ABOUT THE BOOK - SUMMARY

Atiitebi is a fictional Yoruba story novel written and authored Diipo Gbenro. The first edition of this book was released in the year 2015. The story preaches only one thing – spear the rod and spoil the child. Yoruba people often make a proverb that, “Owo kan ni n b’imo, igba owo ni n wo” (only one person gives birth to a child, two hundred people nurtured the baby). This fiction story was about Oluseyi’s parents who were wealthy and very popular in their village.

Oluseyi’s mother was not ready to join hand with Oluseyi’s father to properly bring up the child, since he was their only child. After a while, Oluseyi grew wings, joined bad gangs, started coming late at night and had many bad behaviours. Unfortunately, he met his waterloo untimely. What finally became of him? What happened to Oluseyi’s parents at the end of the day? What lesson can one learn from this story? Find out these and many more in this interesting book titled Atiitebi by Diipo Gbenro
